About this trip
Who wouldn’t include Kenya on their “bucket list” of places to see? Our 8-day Kenya Safari Escape is one you won’t want to miss! Our package includes airfare, transfers, great hotel & lodge accommodations, daily breakfast, lunches & dinners on safari, and plenty of touring. You’ll see orphan elephants at Daphne Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage, embark on a thrilling boat safari on Lake Naivasha, experience amazing game drives in the Masai Mara National Reserve and much more! In addition, we will take a visit to a Maasai village is a chance to interact with the Maasai and get a glimpse into their culture, unique way of life and see first hand some of their customs and practices. This nomadic, warrior tribe which once held vast swathes of pre colonial Kenya, still retain many of their traditions as they live largely untouched by modern day civilization, in areas surrounding Masai Mara. And as always, in true Art N Soul fashion, we’ve managed to package a dream vacation at a price that is unbelievable, even to us.
Kenya is generally a dry country; over 75% of its area is classed as arid or semi-arid with only around 20% being viable for agriculture. Inland, rainfall and temperatures are closely related to altitude changes, with variations induced by local topography. Generally the climate is warm and humid at the coast, cool and humid in the central highlands, and hot and dry in the north and in the east. Most rain falls from April to July as a result of the southeasterly monsoon. In much of the central highlands, the rainy seasons are March to June and November to January.
The people of Kenya are known for being extremely polite and helpful. It is not uncommon to hear “Jambo!” or “Hakuna matata” which mean “Hello” and “No worries” in Swahili. Shaking hands is the most common form of greeting and is almost always followed by asking about the health, the family or business of the other person. It is considered very poor manners to rush or skip this. It is also considered rude to lose one’s temper or to shout. It is courteous to ask before taking pictures, and in some remote areas, a small token or payment for the photo is sometimes expected simply as a form of polite appreciation.
Swahili (or Kiswahili) is the national language of Kenya, however, English is taught in all schools and is the official language of business, government and education. There are over forty ethnic communities in Kenya who speak close to eighty different languages. Many people speak Swahili as their second language.
